English Makes Sense!

We were investigating the word <divison> and its derivates, and we came to find the Latin root <videre> in both the words <divide> and <vision>; however, the meaning of the root differed according to etymoline:  <divide> listed the root to mean "to separate", and  <vision> "to see."  Does anyone know what accounts for the different meanings listed for the same root in etymoline? We could make a meaning connection between "separate" and "see", but thought it might be a stretch.

Thanks for any insight offered.
