I found references to a wonderful book, Robertson's Words for a Modern Age: A Cross Reference of Latin and Greek Combining Elements, online (you can see a few pages of it at Google Books). Now out of print, at Amazon, used copies are selling for $150 and up. I got in touch with the author, now living in Germany, who has some remaining copies available for sale much more reasonably. You can read about and buy the book here. I have bought a bunch of them for teachers and parents here at my school, but he still has many to sell, especially for those of you in Europe, where the shipping won't be as expensive as it is to the States.

The book is not only useful and fascinating, but is beautfully bound and printed on heavy, acid-free paper -- a real collector's item. It is enhanced by an incredible related website, which you can read about here.
