We have been learning that complete English words usually start or end in <y> but do not have it in the middle - hence the need to change <y> to <i> when adding a suffix to a <y> ending word. However, my students were eager to know why both 'hypothesis' and 'eye' have a <y> inside. Can anyone guide me on the steps I might take with them to approach this with an enquiry-based methodology?
